Balance
Within the Biblical text there are many verses that strongly advise believers to balance the three parts of human beings: the body, mind, and spirit. However, even though these verses are writing in the Bible, some Jews and Christians provide little information on precisely how to balance all three. Because of our lack of providing guidelines to balance ourselves, many experiment with other practices.
I remember discussing with my brother about the importance of balancing all three parts of man. He and I shared with zeal and enthusiasm the benefits of balancing our parts. However, neither he or I never experienced the benefits of being balanced. Our conversation on the subject was nothing but a speculation. When I asked how can we balance all three, he replied by saying that, "All God requires is for us to just come to Him. You can not get tied up in figuring how to meet the demands of God".
"But why not? If this is what God requires, then why not formulate practical guidelines for how to balance all three that are consistent with teachings of God?"
He could not answer my question. Because my relatives in Messiah are not formulating guidelines for the balance of our three parts, is the reason why most Christians and Jews experiment with non-monotheistic beliefs. For example, my good friend told me that he feels Christianity does not point out practice of balance enough. As a result he became a practicing Buddhist, a religion that emphasizes the balance of the three parts.
Balancing of the three parts are just as essential to avoiding murder or any other sin. Not to balance the three is warned by Paul, "Do you not know that your body is the temple of the Spirit of God?"
Hopefully, this article will help believers in God to think outside the scriptural box and come into the world of practicality and application. The reason is, I believe that it is the responsibility of the believer to construct a guideline on how to balance self, that is consistent with the teachings of God in the Bible. Balancing self is an important practice for the believer, even our spiritual fathers mention its importance. Then if it is important, we should learn how to do it.
